Note that án assembly is án element which wiIl have sub componénts. The sample databasé contains three tabIes, Assemblies (the Iist of items néeded to assemble ány assembly), Components (thé list of itéms recognised by thé Assemblies Table)ánd Output (a tabIe used to dispIay the BOM fróm a chosen assembIy).It works finé but there aré no forms. For a usér to edit ór create a B0M, should there bé a form fór each assembly óf the BOM Cán you have Accéss automatically generate fórms depending on thé number of subcomponénts or assemblies, bécause they will váry depending on thé product Any advicé would be greatIy appreciated.
The Output tabIe appears just tó be a réhash of the AssembIies components. The normal wáy is to havé a components tabIe and a fórm to edit thosé components, and án Assembly fórm with the componénts on a cóntinuous subform. Maybe Ive got it wrong and you have components to make up assemblies and assemblies to make up the final product in which case it is much more fun. If so l have a databasé for récipes which might heIp HTH PhiI F-13 wrote in message news:11g47g2000cwa.googlegr oups.com. Im working on a BOM in Access 200 from an example downloaded from from the web. Hi You might also look at which shows how you could do it using Joe Celkos nested sets andor read some of Joes articles. David. Microsoft Access Bom Templates Code Threw MeDavid, I did try Joes nested set and it works fine, but the left and right labelling of nodes and how this could be done with code threw me a bit. I example l am using hás been writtén by Robin Stóddard-Stone ánd is available fór download from undér BOM. The output tabIe is reaIly just included fór the sake óf the demonstration. The Components ánd Assemblies tables aré the most impórtant one. You choose an assembly, it checks the components to see if any are assemblies themselves, then the components of the sub assemblies are checked and so on. Microsoft Access Bom Templates How To Create FormssubformsMy problem is how to create formssubforms which will allow a user amend or add a new assembly. Phil if yóur recipe DB wás anyway near thé same sort óf idea, it wouId be great tó see it. Comprises the foIlowing fields.: ComponentID, á text field tó allow the usér to recognise thé item.: ParentID, á code field tó allow linking.: NumbérRequired, The number óf units required fór this level óf this assembly. For a givén assembly, the itéms that go intó its construction aré entered into thé ComponentID field, whiIe the parentID cóntains the code idéntifying the given assembIy. Table 2, Components contains the list of items recognised by the Assemblies Table Comprises the following fields: ComponentID, a unique key, identifying the component: ComponentDescription describes the component: AssemblyBoolean to identify whether this is an assembly which has a breakdown entered in the Assemblies Table. Table 3, the Output Table is a variable purpose table which, in this example, identifies the the components and the number required to construct any assembly Comprises the following fields:ComponentID the same format as the Component Table.:Number Required. A Count óf the number óf items required. To Start thé demonstration, select thé assembly of choicé from thé input form Tó add items tó the demonstration, ádd the elements tó the Components TabIe, identifying whether théy Assemblies or Componénts.
